A paternity DNA test can either definitively exclude or confirm paternity with at least 99.9% probability (i.e., "paternity practically proven").
FAQ
What can these tests reveal?
Who is the paternity test STANDARD suitable for?
The STANDARD paternity test is suitable in cases when you want to verify or exclude the paternity of the tested man towards the child. Informed consent is not required, nor do you provide the names of the test subjects, so 100% anonymity is guaranteed. However, the origin of the samples analysed is known only to the client, i.e. the identity of the persons tested has not been verified by a forensic expert and the testimonial value of such a test in court is low. However, the laboratory test itself is done in the same way as the forensic paternity test, so the result is the same.
What does an anonymous paternity test mean?
It is a comparison of anonymous samples without identification of the tested persons. The identity of these persons is known only to the person ordering the test.
What is the difference between STANDARD and EXTRA paternity test?
The EXTRA paternity test includes, in addition to the STANDARD test, a comprehensive results report with individual DNA profiles of the tested persons and possible analyses of repeated sampling.
Can the results of these tests be used in court?
No, because these are anonymous tests. The origin of the analyzed samples is unknown to us, meaning the identity of the tested individuals has not been verified.Do you perform paternity tests before the child is born?
No, we do not perform paternity tests during pregnancy. What samples can be used for a paternity test?
Sampling can be done using a sampling kit, which will be sent to you by post to the address you specify after you have placed your order. You will then swab the oral cavity for each person tested. If it is not possible to do such a collection, or if you do not want other people to know about the test, it is possible to use a variety of non-standard materials as a sample. Is it necessary for the mother to be tested as well?
Not necessarily. However, her presence improves the statistical significance of the test— it increases the paternity index and the probability of paternity or, in the opposite case, increases the number of excluding markers. If the mother is included in the paternity test, she must not be excluded from the child (maternity must be confirmed).
In cases where there is doubt about maternity, it must be tested separately. Maternity testing follows the same principles as paternity testing but is not commonly performed, as there is usually no reason for it. However, with the rise of assisted reproduction, cases questioning maternity are becoming more frequent.
Can the quality of biological samples for DNA analysis affect the results of a paternity test?
No. If, for example, the biological sample has been degraded (due to food residue) or contaminated with other DNA (improper handling of samples), and it is not possible to obtain a reliable and clear DNA profile from one individual (the source of the sample), we will not evaluate the paternity test. In such cases, we contact the customer to arrange for a new sample collection or possibly a new order. Is it possible to come to the laboratory in person for sample collection?
If you come to us in person, we will provide you with the sample collection kit, and you can collect the samples yourself. Alternatively, for an additional fee, you can request that our staff perform the sample collection. When can I come in person to pick up the sample collection kit from the laboratory?
